Whether a new build on your property, an extension or a fitting, you might think it’s worth giving it a go yourself. Here are seven reasons why you should use a builder for building a home addition.

Security

Having a qualified builder on your project offers reassurance for a couple of reasons, the first being that they will be insured, and any damage to your home will be covered, protecting you from any liability issues. It’s an unlikely event, but if it were to happen then the builder’s liability insurance would keep you from paying out for it.

Confidence

Having a trade expert on board will afford you all of their experience and knowledge when it comes to delivering end product. You may be confident in your own abilities, but unless you are in the trade yourself you will be in safer hands with a professional.

Reselling

A reputable name on your construction job gives you more power in the market. A professional job gives a more appealing look to your potential listing, either immediately or in the future. They can also afford advice on the best trends to add resale value with knowledge of the area if you’re looking to sell.

Management

Building work takes time. In the excitement of starting a dream project it can be easy to lose sight of deadlines, or even the time taken to complete. Resource management is what makes these people their livelihood, and they will also be able to see parts of your ideas that don’t necessarily work, and be able to advise on a compromise.

Teamwork

Links to others in the business are especially useful in large projects. Having someone leading your build who can call on experts in bathroom or kitchen fittings will be essential if your ideas are grand or specific. Failing that, building work at its best is a collaborative effort and the extra contacts will save time and your sanity.

Save Time And Money

It might sound counterintuitive, but hiring a builder can actually save you money. They will have a set plan to get the job done on a budget and a timeframe, and are better suited to meeting these targets without incurring overages. They may also throw in upgrades and extras for you that you would pay more for had you taken the job yourself. You also won’t have to worry about fitting your build around your own career, extending the project time.

Quality

The bottom line. With all other points in mind, at the end of the day a professional is just that – a professional in their field. Especially when it comes to a topic like your home, where you spend most of your time and is your place to relax and unwind, you want a building that has quality craftsmanship running right through it. Taking it on alone could tempt you to cut corners and and try to save costs, when what you really need is the highest quality of work.
